Default Armbraces

So what do you guys think... sell em and get rid of them?
Will they go back up in price?
Will they go down more in price?

discuss.

Well, the price of ecto appears to be increasing now that we know OF is getting the axe. So I wouldn't want armbraces right now unless I were going to use them in the very near future to buy something.

The implications in the long term are harder to predict. The price of armbraces more or less derives from the time cost of farming one relative to the time cost of farming an ecto. How the update will affect DoA and UW farming cannot be determined without knowing the content of the update.

but we can predict the effects of preliminary notes as well as the fact that common farming builds get more or less hammered. even if 600/smite still works after the upcoming update, it still will be supposedly harder, limiting the amount of players using it (to say it roughly: cutting the rookies and idiots away).
the time needed to find out new ways to farm/sc is the most important factor here, i think. the sooner found and the faster it will be, the less ectos/arms will skyrocket.

Armbraces are worth the same amount they have been for months. The only difference is ectos are now more expensive, so they're worth less ectos.

Aside from that, the various gem farms (except for styg) require some combination of 600/smite/SF, so their prices will inflate /w the loss of farms as well.

Hmpf, if I knew/could accurately predict what the changes in prices of Armbraces, Ecto, Amber and the lot would be in advance, I wouldn't be farming stuff for Nicholas to sell those gifts for a measly 5k each...

Yet, IF I knew, it would be stupid to divulge that information on a public forum, wouldn't it?

I'd say sell the Armbraces. It's better to have the ectos as they're going to most likely rise in price were as the with Armbraces the price in gold will remain roughly the same, but the # of ectos to buy one will drop.

Armbraces have consistantly been between 200k-300k for a very long time now. Their price in terms of ecto consistantly changes becauses ectos change alot.

I think a lot of people are sitting on a stash hoping they will be going up in price. I know people who have been farming non-stop since the first notion of a SF nerf was made.

I say sell the armbraces. You will receive more ecto and ecto will go up.

This is the problem with the GW2 community, they dont realize realize that ecto is just an extension of gold, and thus the value of items should not fluctuate with ecto prices, ideally. If an armbrace is worth 240-300k (44-47e at 1e=6k) then it should still be worth 240-300k even if ecto prices rose to 100k/ecto. it will just mean that you trade 3e for an armbrace in that case instead of 47.

Common Sense people! or did everyone just fail elementary math?

granted if the upcoming update makes gemstones harder to farm (which it will with perma nerf), then yes armbrace prices will rise and you should buy now before update or sell later after update for best price. But if ecto prices go up to more than what it would cost to buy armbraces say 47e valued at 300k becomes valued at 500k, then Sell ecto now to have more money.

Can anyone else make sense of this?

Arms have slowly dropped in terms of ectos over the past year. In terms of cash they have remained about the same.

If you think ectos will rise in value, then it would be good to sell now. It's all speculation just like options and futures in the stock market. Nobody really knows and it's a gamble.

Little different than IRL, because there's a lot of evidence supporting to ecto prices soaring soon.

In my opinion save your ectos. They've doubled in price before with the UWSC nerf, they'll do it again after all mainstream forms of UW clearing are nerfed.

Though the demand'll probably drop dramatically as well, because people just won't give a shit about Obby armor any more once it gets that hard to get.

I have evidence that ecto prices will not soar. Everyone is playing in preparation of the nerf, stocking up on ectos because they will be tougher to get. More ectos are in the market at this time than before the announcement. The market will be flooded with many ectos, and if people try to bring the price up, everyone will try and cash out, then the price will go back down again. Supply and demand principles.

the whole problem with your cash out the ectos idea is that noone can hold as much gold as their ecto supply is worth. In that case you either keep ectos or buy armbraces but the idea that people are gonna cash in their 4-5 or whatever stacks of e's is ridiculous.
On point tho, it seems doasc hasnt been hammered near as bad as everyone thinks it was going to. People are still doing runs the only thing that has changed is the tank. The new tanking options are actually better since any class can have perma-spellbreaker i.e. sf, and ofc the spikes that make doasc work havent been changed at all.
I'd say the ectos will rise in price but the armbraces will remain around the same value in gold.

Don't believe in the hype. I've already seen the new perma's do DoA in 1:30. This is on the day of the new SF update. Give it another week, it'll be 1 hour runs.

Ah..

Sell sell sell!!

I'll help the rumour about deflating armbrace prices along it's way too

Pro-tip - if a trader starts a thread, they're generally looking to get something out of it.

Peace.

Armbraces are just a different denomination of Ecto. If an Ecto is $5 then an Armbrace is like $50. You can only carry so many $5 bills before you want a bigger bill. Yay for ectos being more...for a while. Sins have been fine tuning farming builds and the market will be once more flooded by cheap ectos next week.

Surely the only thing that is going to effect the price of an armbrace is the price in which the gems lie at.

Which ultimately means that if people can't farm gems as easily, the price will go up.
